PRAISE FOR LANCASHIRE’S DRUG AND ALCOHOL SERVICES

Lancashire Drug and Alcohol Action Team (LDAAT) have been showcasing their services to substance misuse experts from across Europe as part of a very special new Network. The Network has been set up to look at how the problems of substance misuse can be tackled across Europe. Delegates from Germany, Ukraine, Romania, Finland, Slovenia, Russia, Croatia and Holland flew into the North West on Monday as part of a two-day visit. They spent a day in East Lancashire looking at the services available for people with substance misuse. Thomas Kattau who was responsible for setting up the Network was amazed by the level of partnership working in Lancashire “It is truly inspiring to see the number of different organisations who are working together to fight the problem of substance misuse in Lancashire. This has certainly given many of the members of the network something to take back and work towards.” Lancashire was selected earlier this year to represent England and Wales in this network. They are delighted to be hosting this visit and are very proud to be showing off their services Tom Woodcock, Strategic Director for the DAAT, said “We are the second largest DAAT in the country with an estimated number of 6000 people living in Lancashire with a substance misuse problem. We are working hard as a partnership to try and tackle this problem and we have an estimated 4500 people currently accessing our services. It is our job to build on this and ensure that we have more help available to make a genuine difference. Tom explained why Lancashire DAAT is proud to be part of the Network and went on the highlight its importance “Being part of the European Network gives us the opportunity to learn more about the problems caused by substance misuse and look at new ways in which we can tackle the problem.” The visit finished with a small evening event, which included speakers from the Home Office and Government Office North West, an exhibition of current drug and alcohol projects and an opportunity to taste the traditional dish of Lancashire hotpot.
